## What changed 1) SAP positioned Joule (agents + assistants) as part of an "Autonomous Enterprise" at Sapphire 2026 — shipping 50+ Joule assistants and 200+ specialized agents for finance, supply chain, HR and manufacturing; SAP said these agents will tie into workforce planning and SuccessFactors HR workflows and start rolling out in May/June 2026. That means HR- and payroll-facing agents that can answer pay questions, suggest development paths and automate routine manager tasks are moving to customers now.

2) Observe.AI launched Companion Agent, a multi-agent interface built to assist frontline customer-service employees before, during and after calls — described as an AI partner that can listen, reason, guide and act in real time. Observe reports customers are already seeing reduced handle time and higher first-call resolution. This is a direct workforce augmentation (and a redefinition of what ‘‘being on shift’’ looks like for agents).

3) Notion released a Developer Platform that turns workspaces into an agent hub (May 13). Teams can connect live data, run hosted glue code (Workers), and orchestrate external agents inside an employee’s knowledge workspace — lowering the barrier for individual contributors and small teams to build agents that change their daily workflows.

4) nCino’s banking benchmark (May 13) found 89% of bankers expect a dual workforce (AI agents + humans) within five years and 84% say agentic AI has already changed roles. 5) Broadridge announced agentic AI live in production across capital markets and wealth ops (May 11), pitching immediate Day-1 operational cost reductions and workflows that autonomously triage and resolve exceptions — showing agentic automation reaching back-office work that many employees do today.

## What to do with it - HR / People leaders: start a 30–60 day inventory of employee-facing agent touchpoints (pay, payroll questions, case triage, frontline guidance, production line assistants). Prioritize those with immediate safety, legal, or pay implications and draft communications and training plans tied to each. - Managers: treat agents as new direct reports that require onboarding, metrics, and review processes. Update task lists and performance metrics to separate agent-enabled productivity from employee judgment and relationship work. - Individual contributors: experiment with low-risk agent pilots (Notion Workers, Companion Agent trials) to reclaim repetitive work and document changed responsibilities—capture time saved, errors avoided and new oversight tasks. - Labor / legal: update job descriptions, bargaining checklists and data-access policies now. Expect disputes over monitoring, surveillance and redeployment if agent rollouts accelerate.
