Healthcare organizations around the world are working to use artificial intelligence (AI) safely to help doctors and patients, according to reports released this week. The main challenge is that many hospitals have created lots of AI experiments, but they struggle to actually use these tools in their daily work. A major technology company called Kyndryl released findings showing that more than half of healthcare organizations worry about following new AI rules and regulations. To help solve this problem, Kyndryl created something called "policy as code," which is like a computer program that automatically makes sure AI follows all the rules and stays safe.

At the same time, hospitals are using agentic AI - which means AI systems that can make decisions and do tasks on their own - to help with both patient care and office work. For example, AI is now handling the first call when patients call a doctor's office with health concerns, and it is also helping with paperwork like billing and medical records. One major concern is making sure this AI gives the right answers and doesn't make dangerous mistakes. Doctors and hospitals are also worried about keeping patient information safe when they use connected devices and AI systems. This week, healthcare leaders from around the world are preparing for a big conference in Seoul, South Korea in two weeks to discuss how to use AI to improve healthcare for everyone.
