Ethics & Safety Weekly AI News
November 3 - November 11, 2025This week, leaders and experts met to discuss important safety concerns about advanced artificial intelligence. UL Solutions, a major safety company, announced a new way to check if AI systems are safe. Their test looks at nine different areas, including making sure AI systems are honest and fair. However, scientists found that many tests used to check AI safety have big problems. Over 440 safety tests were checked, and almost every single one had weaknesses. This means companies might think their AI is working well when it actually isn't.
At the United Nations, experts warned about the risks of very advanced AI systems called agentic AI. These are AI systems that can make their own choices and take action. The experts said we need red lines or rules about what AI should never be allowed to do. They talked about three main dangers: too much power in a few companies, AI being used for bad things, and AI becoming too powerful for humans to control.
There were also problems with AI in the legal world this week. AI tools gave lawyers false information to use in court cases. These hallucinations happen when AI makes up false facts and presents them as real. This showed that AI has serious problems people need to be careful about.
