Coding Weekly AI News
October 20 - October 28, 2025The world of computer programming is going through a huge change this week, and it all has to do with AI agents that can work on their own. Think of it like having a very smart helper who can figure out what needs to be done without you telling them every single step.
GitHub Copilot's Big Breakthrough
GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft, showed off something new called Copilot's autonomous pull requests. A pull request is like when a programmer wants to add new code to a project. The old way meant a programmer had to write all the code themselves. Now, an AI agent can do it. The AI reads what needs to be done, plans how to do it, writes the code, and even checks if it works. It's like having a very fast programmer who never gets tired. Companies using this new tool say programmers are getting 55% more productive, which means they can make new apps and features about twice as fast.
Microsoft's New Framework for AI Agents
Microsoft announced something called the Agent Framework that was introduced at their Build 2025 conference. This tool makes it easier for companies to use multiple AI agents that work together. Instead of one AI doing one job, now many AIs can talk to each other and solve bigger problems together. Over 70,000 organizations are already using Microsoft's AI tools to help them build software. Big companies like KPMG, Citrix, and Elastic are using this new framework to make their software building faster and safer. The tool helps with something called agentic DevOps, which means AI agents help with everything from writing code to testing it to putting it out for people to use.
Agentic AI Is Changing Everything
Scientists and experts say that agentic AI is different from regular AI helpers. Regular AI, like the kind that writes essays, will do one thing when you ask it to. Agentic AI is smarter. It can look at a big goal, break it down into smaller pieces, do all the work, and fix problems if things go wrong. This technology is being used in several new ways for programmers. It helps new programmers learn the code faster by automatically setting up their computer and explaining how the code works. It helps teams work better together by watching what everyone is doing and telling them about problems. It can write whole programs from a simple description. It can even test software by itself and find bugs before people see them.
Real Companies Using These Tools
One company called Cognition Labs made a tool called Devin that acts like a complete robot programmer. In 2025, Goldman Sachs, which is a very large bank in the United States, decided to test Devin alongside their 12,000 human programmers. This shows that even big, careful companies think AI agents are ready to help with real work. Devin can read through a whole program, understand how it works, write new code, fix problems, and even submit the work to be checked by humans.
The Race to Use These Tools
Companies and experts are saying that the gap between companies using these new AI agents and companies still programming the old way is getting bigger very fast. In just 18 months, the difference might become so big that old-fashioned companies will have a very hard time catching up. This is why many companies are rushing to use these tools now. Salesforce, another big software company, talked about the Agentic Enterprise at their Dreamforce 2025 conference, which means the future of business will have AI agents making decisions and solving problems alongside people.
What This Means for Programmers
Programmers don't need to worry that robots will take all their jobs. Instead, programmers are becoming more like managers or directors. They still need to think about what the AI should do and check that the AI is doing it right. Programmers get back about 10 to 15 hours each week to work on harder problems that need human thinking instead of just typing code. The job is changing from typing code to telling AI agents what to build and making sure it's good quality. This is an exciting time for programmers because they can do more interesting work and make bigger things happen faster than ever before.
