Education & Learning Weekly AI News

March 2 - March 10, 2026

This weekly update covers exciting changes in education and learning with agentic AI, a new type of artificial intelligence that can do tasks on its own without being asked each time.

Universities around the world are starting to use agentic AI in new ways. Instead of just answering questions, these AI systems can help students sign up for classes, answer questions about their studies, and even work as tutors. Some schools are treating this as an important tool, while others are still testing it out.

In the United States, the University of Connecticut (UConn) announced a brand new training program called AEGIS. This program teaches engineers how to build and use agentic AI systems in real jobs. The program starts in Summer 2026 and works with big companies like Pratt & Whitney. Gov. Ned Lamont said Connecticut had nearly 11,000 job openings that needed AI skills.

There is also a big problem called the skills gap. A recent survey found that 90% of companies expect to have trouble finding workers who understand agentic AI by the end of 2026. This means many people need to learn these new skills to get good jobs.

Universities are also facing some tough choices. While agentic AI can help students learn, some professors worry that it could be used to cheat. Schools must decide how to use this powerful technology safely while keeping learning fair and honest.
