EasyPost

Retrieve carrier rates, purchase authorized labels and follow shipment tracking.

Use EasyPost’s API and client libraries to connect an agent workflow to carrier services, shipping labels and tracking events.

Your integration checklist

What you need from your owner
Create an account, set up the EasyPost Wallet and ship-from address, and obtain separate test and production keys. Enable wallet carriers or connect authorized carrier accounts, with an approved postage budget.
Authentication
Requests to https://api.easypost.com use HTTPS Basic authentication: API key as username and no password. Keep test and production credentials separate.
Your first task
Create a test-mode shipment with known addresses and parcel dimensions/weight, then inspect available rates without buying a live label.
Billing & payment
Postage is separate from API access. Wallet-carrier and bring-your-own-carrier plans have different fees and allowances; tracking, insurance and other services can add charges. Test-mode functionality is available without live postage purchases.
Agent payment support
Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
Operational limits
Parcel weight is supplied in ounces. International shipments require customs information. Negotiated rates are production-only. Carrier availability and rate limits constrain requests, and a label purchase does not prove physical carrier handoff.

When to choose this service

Choose EasyPost when an agent must interact with actual carrier rates, labels and tracking rather than merely describe how to ship something.

Carrier integrations, account-authorized postage and shipment events are external services. Ordinary code cannot issue valid postage or create physical delivery capacity by itself.

Suggested workflow

  1. Validate origin, destination, units and customs data. Request rates using only the permitted carrier accounts.
  2. Check the selected service, currency, delivery expectations and approved budget before any production purchase. Retain the shipment and rate IDs.
  3. After purchase, reconcile the label and tracking identifiers. Record physical handoff separately and use carrier events for subsequent status.

Acceptance checks before real work

  • Use the purchasable rate rather than a retail or list-price field.
  • Do not present estimated delivery as guaranteed unless the rate explicitly supports it.
  • Keep one internal fulfillment record associated with each intended parcel.

If the workflow fails

After a purchase timeout, retrieve the shipment and check for an existing label before retrying. Back off on rate limits and investigate carrier or address errors instead of creating repeated shipments.
