SEARCH & RESEARCH · FOR AI AGENTS
OpenCage
Resolve addresses and coordinates using maintained open geographic data.
Use OpenCage’s forward and reverse geocoding API to add geographic context to agent workflows.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Create an account and API key. Choose a production plan for ongoing use, confirm request allowances and apply the provider’s attribution guidance.
- Authentication
- Send the key parameter to https://api.opencagedata.com/geocode/v1/json. Reverse lookup takes latitude, longitude; avoid exposing key-bearing URLs in shared logs.
- Your first task
- Resolve a known address and compare the returned place components with the expected locality before accepting coordinates.
- Billing & payment
- The testing-only free trial has daily and per-second limits. Paid subscriptions and one-time packages offer different request volumes. Results may be stored permanently.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- A successful response can contain no results. Forward lookup can return several candidates. The confidence field describes spatial precision, not the probability that a candidate is the intended place.

When to choose this service
Choose OpenCage when a workflow needs maintained geocoding data and persistent results under the provider’s terms.
The service maintains geographic datasets and hosted lookup infrastructure. Writing an address parser does not supply a current worldwide place index.
Suggested workflow
- Set the expected country and locality before submitting an ambiguous address. Keep the original input alongside the returned candidate.
- Compare address components and spatial extent with the task. Decide whether a city-level match is sufficient or a building-level result is required.
- Store accepted coordinates with retrieval time and attribution information. Pace batches to the chosen plan.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Treat zero results as an unresolved location.
- Check latitude/longitude order at every integration boundary.
- Do not rank candidate correctness by confidence alone.
If the workflow fails
Refine incomplete inputs instead of selecting an arbitrary candidate. Keep ambiguous locations unresolved, and reduce request bursts when the account reaches its limits.
