Workforce Impact (from business side) Weekly AI News
February 16 - February 24, 2026AI agents are becoming the new workforce, and businesses around the world are preparing for big changes in how people work. AI agents are artificial intelligence programs that work like employees—they get email accounts, have job titles, and even follow the same rules as human workers.
Right now, most companies using AI say it hasn't changed much yet. A study asked leaders at nearly 6,000 companies, and about 80 percent said AI hasn't helped their productivity or their number of workers so far. However, these same leaders think AI will make a big difference in the next three years. One person in charge at a company reported using AI only about 1.5 hours per week on average.
A new type of job is being created called "AI Manager." These people don't manage regular employees—they manage AI agents. Someone who is really good at managing 100 AI agents at the same time could become super valuable to their company. These managers need to understand when AI makes mistakes and how to keep the AI working safely.
Big changes are coming to companies. According to the United States Federal Reserve, companies might cut employees now and add AI agents later. One government leader warned that businesses aren't ready for how fast AI could change things. Some experts think AI will affect anywhere from 14 to 30 percent of jobs soon, and possibly up to 80 percent of American workers could be impacted in some way.
The interesting part is that even though AI hasn't helped much yet, companies are still spending tons of money on it—$258.7 billion went into AI companies in 2025. Companies are betting that AI will help them succeed, even if the proof isn't there yet. The real question is whether AI will make work better or create big problems for workers around the world.
