Legal & Regulatory Frameworks Weekly AI News
October 13 - October 21, 2025This weekly update brings important news about how governments around the world are creating rules for AI agents - smart computer programs that can make decisions and take actions on their own.
The United Nations made a big announcement by creating two new groups to help all 193 countries work together on AI rules. Before this, only seven wealthy countries were part of all the major AI agreements, leaving 118 countries without a voice. The new groups include the Global Dialogue on AI Governance and a Scientific Panel that will study AI risks and help countries understand how to keep AI safe.
In Singapore, government officials explained how they plan to handle agentic AI - systems that can work with less human watching. They told lawmakers that many current laws already cover AI risks, like privacy laws and workplace fairness rules. Singapore is also running special tests to learn more about how these autonomous systems work before making new rules.
A major report called "The Agentic State" was shared at a technology meeting, showing how governments can use AI agents safely. More than 20 leaders from different countries helped write this guide. It explains how AI agents could change how governments work, from answering citizen questions to checking if rules are being followed.
The Bank of England in the United Kingdom also shared its plan for dealing with new technologies like AI. These announcements show that countries are taking agentic AI seriously and working to create rules that keep people safe while letting helpful technology grow.
