Education & Learning Weekly AI News
September 15 - September 23, 2025This weekly update brings exciting news about AI agents changing how we learn and go to school. These smart computer helpers are becoming much better at helping students and teachers.
Experts now believe that AI could become better than regular schools for teaching kids within the next 5 to 10 years. This big change is already starting to happen. In the United States, about one-third of teachers now use AI tools every week to make homework and grade papers. Even more students are using these tools - 86% of college students and half of younger students use ChatGPT and similar programs to help with their schoolwork.
The new agentic AI systems are much smarter than old chatbots. They can do many steps to complete tasks, just like a human helper would. For example, if you ask an AI agent to "book a haircut," it doesn't just search for hair salons. Instead, it figures out what information it needs, finds the right websites, and actually makes the appointment for you.
In schools, these AI learning assistants could understand how each student learns best. They could find what subjects a student struggles with and suggest the perfect practice problems or study materials. Teachers could use AI agents to create custom quizzes and lesson plans that fit exactly what their students need.
Some special schools are already trying this new approach. Alpha Schools uses AI as the main way to teach, and their students learn the same amount in just two hours per day that other schools teach all day. These students score in the top 1% of all students in the country.
The cost savings are huge too. Using AI for education could save families up to $200,000 per student compared to traditional schooling. This makes good education available to more families around the world.
