Coding Weekly AI News

January 19 - January 27, 2026

AI coding tools are getting better and competing harder. This week, the biggest news was that companies like Cursor and Windsurf released new features that let AI agents write code by themselves without waiting for humans to type commands. Google also surprised everyone by releasing a free tool called Antigravity that works like other AI coding helpers. These tools are helping programmers work faster, but they're creating new problems. A big study found that AI is already writing almost one-third of all new code in the United States, but mainly helping experienced programmers get better at their jobs. The real challenge is checking if AI-written code is safe and correct. Companies are now worried about security because AI can write code quickly, but nobody is always watching to make sure it works right. One popular tool called Tailwind CSS even had money problems because AI could now do the work without people needing to learn how to use it. Overall, AI coding is becoming normal for most companies, with 87 percent using AI helpers, but teams need new ways to check and verify code before it gets used.
