Coding Weekly AI News

May 12 - May 20, 2025

This week saw major moves in AI coding tools as tech giants compete to build smarter assistants for developers. OpenAI launched Codex, an AI agent that can handle multiple coding tasks at once in ChatGPT. Users can ask Codex to write code, answer questions about their projects, and track progress through a sidebar.

Not to be outdone, Google introduced AlphaEvolve – a self-coding AI that optimizes software, solves math problems, and even helps design computer chips. Tests show it solves tough math challenges faster than human experts and speeds up coding projects by weeks.

For Java developers, new tools like Spring AI and LangChain4j make it easier to add smart features without needing Python skills. These libraries help create apps that spot fraud, understand language, and give recommendations using familiar Java code.

The AI coding market keeps growing fast, with Cursor (a popular tool) now worth $9 billion after hitting $300 million in yearly sales. OpenAI made a big purchase too – buying Windsurf, maker of another coding platform, to boost Codex’s abilities.

While Meta struggles with delays on its Behemoth AI model, smaller players like ElevenLabs dominate audio AI (80% market share) and Kling leads in video generation (30% share). The race to build the best coding AI is heating up worldwide!
