Business Automation Weekly AI News
January 12 - January 20, 2026Artificial intelligence is changing how businesses work, and one big change happening right now is something called agentic AI or AI agents. These are smart computer programs that can make decisions and do work on their own, without waiting for a person to tell them what to do every step of the way.
Companies around the world are using these AI agents to get work done faster and cheaper. For example, a company called Ciena used AI agents to handle office requests like computer access forms, and it made the whole process take minutes instead of days. Bank of America created an AI assistant named Erica that helps customers with banking questions and money advice. These real-world examples show that AI agents are not just ideas anymore—they are actually working in real companies.
Big technology companies are building new tools for AI agents. Microsoft added new AI agents to help with sales and ordering processes in their software. Google created new rules that let different AI agents work together to help people shop online. Shopify is making AI agents that can sell products inside chat apps like ChatGPT.
Business leaders are taking this very seriously. Almost nine out of ten company leaders said they will spend more money on AI in 2026, and many of them are planning to build their own AI agents. Experts predict that by 2028, about 40% of the work that AI does will be done by these autonomous agents. This is a huge jump from right now, when AI agents are still pretty new.
The main reason companies love AI agents is simple: they save time and money. When AI agents do routine work like filling out forms, checking information, and making decisions, people have more time to do important work that needs human thinking. Workers can focus on helping customers, coming up with new ideas, and solving hard problems instead of doing the same boring tasks over and over.
