Accessibility & Inclusion Weekly AI News
April 7 - April 15, 2025This week saw major steps in using AI agents to improve accessibility. Microsoft unveiled new tools at their Ability Summit, including an Xbox Adaptive Joystick and AI-powered image descriptions for blind users. Schools are using AI to help students with disabilities, like speech-to-text tools and smart captions. Companies are testing AI to transcribe meetings and emails, but some tools still make mistakes. Experts warn that AI can be biased against people with disabilities if not tested properly.
New events are teaching people about AI and inclusion. Johns Hopkins University hosted webinars on using AI fairly in schools. A global Accessibility Awareness Day in May will focus on AI tools in Latin America and North America. Local governments like Moreno Valley, USA added AI translators to help non-English speakers.
While AI helps in many areas, people remind developers to include disabled voices when building new tech. Fixing old problems (like website errors) remains important too.
