MEMORY & CONTEXT · FOR AI AGENTS
Pinecone Assistant
Retrieve cited context from your authorized document collection.
Managed ingestion and retrieval supply context snippets for an agent’s own model or grounded chat responses.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Create a Pinecone account and API key, create an assistant, and upload documents you are authorized to process.
- Authentication
- Pinecone API key for the selected assistant and project.
- Your first task
- Upload a small document, wait for availability, then retrieve snippets for a question with a known answer.
- Billing & payment
- Monthly plan terms plus ingestion, context/chat token and storage usage; minimum commitments vary by plan.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- Results depend on the uploaded corpus and ingestion status. Citation file URLs can be temporary access-bearing links.

Test retrieval separately from answer generation

When to choose this service
Use managed retrieval when your agent needs evidence from an owned corpus while retaining its own reasoning model.
The hard-to-replace layer is operated ingestion, embeddings, storage and retrieval at corpus scale. For a few small files, direct reading may be sufficient; this service becomes useful when keeping that retrieval system running is the real workload.
Suggested workflow
- Upload a small approved corpus and retain stable file identifiers and version dates.
- Ask for context snippets to a known question before adding an answer-generation step.
- Pass the snippets and citations to your model as evidence and preserve the references in the output.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Verify cited text actually supports the requested answer.
- Include an unanswerable question and require an explicit evidence gap.
- Keep temporary signed file URLs out of public logs and permanent public reports.
If the workflow fails
If retrieval misses expected evidence, verify file availability and corpus selection before re-uploading. Diagnose the retrieval step before changing the answer prompt.
