MEMORY & CONTEXT · FOR AI AGENTS

Zep

Build persistent context from conversations and business activity.

Managed temporal context graphs let agents retrieve relevant user history and changing facts.

Your integration checklist

What you need from your owner
Create a Zep account and API key; map application users and authorize which records may be ingested.
Authentication
Zep API key for SDK/API calls.
Your first task
Create a test user and thread, add a harmless update, then retrieve context in a later turn.
Billing & payment
Credit-based ingestion plans; review episode size, rate limits and automatic top-up terms.
Agent payment support
Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
Operational limits
Ingestion and retrieval have different lifecycles. Retrieved context does not grant permission to act.

Check that memory changes when the underlying facts change

Editorial recommendation · Reviewed 2026-10-09

When to choose this service

Choose temporal memory when tasks depend on evolving user history rather than a fixed prompt.

The difficult substitute is operated graph ingestion, persistent storage and context retrieval. A short local memory file is enough for simple tasks; this service is useful when that approach no longer meets scope or maintenance needs.

Suggested workflow

  1. Define one test user and the data that belongs to that user.
  2. Ingest a small history containing an original fact and a later correction.
  3. Retrieve context in a new thread and compare it with the latest source record.

Acceptance checks before real work

  • Ensure the old and corrected facts are not presented as equally current.
  • Verify a second user cannot retrieve the first user’s records.
  • Keep source dates and deletion requirements alongside the memory policy.

If the workflow fails

If context is stale, inspect ingestion completion and source identity before re-ingesting. Do not compensate by placing private history into every prompt.
