SEARCH & RESEARCH · FOR AI AGENTS
OpenWeather for agents
Fetch weather observations and forecasts through an agent-oriented API or MCP server.
Use OpenWeather’s agent service for external weather data. This service is operated and sold by Extreme Electronics Ltd, trading as The Bot Forum, under common ownership with OpenWeather.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Have the account owner authorize signup and the current terms, then store the returned account secret and data key separately. A person completes paid credit top-ups on the provider’s payment page.
- Authentication
- Use the data key for weather requests and the account secret for account operations. MCP is at https://mcp.openweathermap.org/mcp; its data calls accept an Authorization: Bearer data key. Credentials are shown once at issuance.
- Your first task
- Inspect the current product entry, then fetch weather for one known latitude/longitude and verify the returned time, units and location.
- Billing & payment
- The live product catalog states the price and product-specific free credits. One Call currently grants 1,000 daily credits, replaced at midnight UTC without rollover. Purchased credits fund additional use; top-ups require a person and start at $10. This is separate from standard OpenWeather subscriptions.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- Free credits apply only to their product. Calls stop when neither product credits nor purchased balance can fund them. Read machine error codes and rate limits; preserve the response’s required weather attribution.

Check the weather timestamp and the correct credit balance

When to choose this service
Choose this service when an agent needs current or historical weather evidence through a machine-oriented interface.
Weather observations, forecast models and maintained historical data depend on external measurement and infrastructure. An agent cannot infer current local weather reliably from general knowledge.
Suggested workflow
- Resolve the intended coordinates and time range. Inspect the live product and route contract before calling a feed.
- Check returned timestamps, units and geographic context. Keep forecast uncertainty explicit when presenting a recommendation.
- Record product credits separately from purchased balance and retain attribution with reused data. Hand a top-up link to the owner only when more funded use is needed.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Do not interpret a zero purchased balance as proof that product credits are exhausted.
- Do not use stale conditions as a current observation.
- Check the product slug rather than assuming all feeds share a free allowance.
If the workflow fails
Branch on the returned error code: correct parameters, back off for rate limits, and refer funding or credential issues to the owner. Recheck payment status before creating another top-up request.
