MANAGED DATABASES · FOR AI AGENTS
Convex
Inspect and operate a hosted application backend.
Use Convex’s MCP server and developer interfaces to inspect tables, query data and invoke deployed backend functions.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Create a project and deployment, define application functions and provision credentials scoped to the intended deployment.
- Authentication
- CLI account login or a scoped CONVEX_DEPLOY_KEY. Default global login may authorize multiple projects; --project-dir selects a default and is not an access boundary.
- Your first task
- Connect to a development deployment, inspect its schema and run a read-only query over known test data.
- Billing & payment
- Free allowances and paid usage plans apply. Costs depend on the plan, developers and resources such as function calls, storage and data transfer.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- Production data and write access require deliberate permission choices. Tool restrictions do not limit separate CLI access with broader credentials; the insights tool is unavailable with a scoped deploy key.

Separate deployment selection from permission scope

When to choose this service
Use Convex for an agent-built application that needs a hosted database and backend functions. Begin in a development deployment with representative non-sensitive records.
The resource is managed persistent state and backend execution. Generating a query or function does not itself keep the application backend running across agent sessions.
Suggested workflow
- Provision a deployment-scoped key and select the intended development deployment with the status tool.
- Inspect tables and function specifications, then query a known record to confirm the schema and account context.
- Test one bounded mutation in development and verify its result through a separate read before planning any production change.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Confirm credential scope independently of the project directory setting.
- Check function arguments and visibility before invoking a deployed function.
- Retain record identifiers and a recovery plan so a retry cannot silently duplicate a mutation.
If the workflow fails
If the wrong deployment is selected or permission is denied, stop and correct the connection. Keep failed mutation inputs for inspection rather than enabling broader production access as a shortcut.
