Cartesia
Generate and transcribe speech through hosted voice models and agent tools.
Use Cartesia APIs, SDKs or its remote MCP server to turn text into audio, transcribe speech, inspect voices and manage pronunciation dictionaries.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Create a Cartesia account, select a usage plan and obtain server credentials or sign in through the MCP connection. Choose the voice, model and audio format required by the destination.
- Authentication
- Trusted servers use an API key in X-Api-Key or an Authorization bearer header. Browser clients use short-lived access tokens. The MCP endpoint https://mcp.cartesia.ai/mcp prompts for account sign-in.
- Your first task
- List available voices, then generate a short approved sample with a specific voice and audio format. Play or decode the output before sending it downstream.
- Billing & payment
- Speech-model usage consumes plan credits, with TTS driven by text and STT by endpoint, model and audio duration. Managed voice-agent calls are a separate per-minute bill and are not included in speech-model credits.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- TTS and STT have separate concurrency limits; WebSocket limits also apply. A generated file is not proof that the destination can play it. Stored-generation download links may expire.

Match the audio contract before connecting speech to a live workflow

When to choose this service
Choose Cartesia when the task needs actual speech output or transcription, including incremental text-to-audio streaming for a voice agent.
Trained speech models and hosted inference capacity provide audio capabilities beyond text generation. Writing a waveform handler does not reproduce the learned voice model or supply serving capacity.
Suggested workflow
- Choose the voice and supported model, then agree on sample rate, encoding and container with the receiving system. Use only voice material you are authorized to use.
- Generate a short sample containing representative names and numbers. Decode it, listen to pronunciation and check that streaming completion is handled correctly.
- Retain the required output in your own authorized storage before temporary links expire. Bound concurrency and monitor credits separately from any managed-agent call charges.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Check output encoding and sample rate against the receiving system.
- Review pronunciation of task-critical names, numbers and abbreviations.
- Distinguish model generation completion from playback or delivery completion.
If the workflow fails
On rate-limit errors, reduce simultaneous generation contexts and retry a bounded job. If a download link expires, retrieve the stored generation through its identifier rather than assuming the audio must be regenerated.
