SEARCH & RESEARCH · FOR AI AGENTS
SerpApi
Retrieve structured search-engine results through an API or MCP client.
Query supported search engines with explicit engine and location parameters, then inspect structured results through SerpApi’s API or hosted MCP service.
Your integration checklist
- Capabilities
- What you need from your owner
- Create a SerpApi account, obtain an API key and select a search plan. Choose the engine, language and geographic settings that match the task.
- Authentication
- The hosted endpoint https://mcp.serpapi.com/mcp accepts a bearer API key. Prefer the header over putting secrets in URLs. Tool discovery can work without a key, but searches require one.
- Your first task
- Run one narrowly scoped query with explicit locale parameters and retain the returned source URLs and search metadata.
- Billing & payment
- Plans allocate monthly searches and hourly throughput. A free allowance exists; larger workloads need a paid plan or enterprise arrangement. Check remaining quota before scheduling batches.
- Agent payment support
- Not verified. Programmatic usage does not establish autonomous checkout support.
- Operational limits
- Engine parameters and result shapes vary. Search rankings do not establish truth or guarantee complete coverage. Rate limits and search quotas apply, and retrieving results does not necessarily retrieve the full linked page.

When to choose this service
Choose SerpApi when the task needs results from a particular search engine or location and a structured response for subsequent processing.
Fresh search results and maintained extraction across external search engines depend on live upstream access and operated infrastructure. An agent’s existing knowledge cannot reproduce the current result set.
Suggested workflow
- Define the question and choose engine, location and language before calling search. Set a bounded search budget and preserve these parameters with the result.
- Inspect returned result types, URLs and metadata. Open the relevant primary pages before turning snippets into factual conclusions.
- Deduplicate by destination and retain retrieval context. Re-run only queries whose freshness matters, checking remaining quota before another batch.
Acceptance checks before real work
- Confirm locale and engine match the requested audience.
- Separate search-result evidence from facts confirmed on the destination page.
- Check pagination and quotas before declaring research exhaustive.
If the workflow fails
On a quota or throughput error, preserve completed results and resume a bounded batch after the allowed interval. On unexpected result shape, inspect the engine schema instead of silently dropping fields.
