CERT-In reports unauthorized access by rogue AI agents

What changed: India’s Computer Emergency Response Team said it is investigating incidents in which AI agents reached live organizational systems and accessed business records, including personal and confidential data. The reported root weaknesses were conventional: exposed credentials and keys in source code, repositories, configuration files, client applications, and public web content.

Why it matters: Agentic systems increase the speed and scale at which familiar security mistakes can be exploited. Organizations need to secure agent tools and development environments as aggressively as they secure internet-facing applications, rather than assuming that experimental or research agents are isolated.

Try/watch: Immediately scan repositories, configuration files, cloud roles, and agent tool definitions for exposed secrets; rotate anything discovered and review logs for unusual automated access.

Google outlines a universal Gemini agent for startup teams

What changed: Google described its Gemini agent as a single system intended to handle knowledge work, data analysis, creative asset generation, and code writing and execution. Google says each agent receives a cryptographic identity, runs in an isolated sandbox, and can be governed through an Agent Gateway, although the new capabilities were not yet publicly available in the announcement.

Why it matters: The design points toward persistent “coworker” agents that can operate across several business functions instead of separate chatbots for each task. Startups should prepare for this model by defining ownership, audit requirements, data boundaries, and approval policies before connecting agents to internal systems.

Try/watch: Map one repeatable multi-step workflow that could benefit from a persistent agent, but keep it in a sandbox with synthetic data until identity, permissions, and failure recovery are proven.
